BARÈGES IN THE WINTER
Photos taken in the village 11th December 2007!
Barèges is a small mountain village situated on the edge of the largest ski resort in the French Pyrenees, the Domaine de Tourmalet. With 100 kilometres of down-hill runs (5 black, 23 red, 21 blue and 21 green), 170 snow canons, 43 ski-lifts, 2 snow parks, snow-shoeing in and around the Lienz forest, and miles of off-piste including the challenging “Pic du Midi descente” down-hill run from 2800 metres, you have the makings of an unforgettable ski holiday for you and the family. A series of ski-buses link the village with the ski-lift system 3 kilometres away further up the mountain, but throughout most of the ski-season you can ski back down to the village...
The village itself boasts two ski-schools, the traditional ESF (French Ski School) and the more unconventional, fun-loving ECOLOSKI, also known as the " verts" (lit. the greens!) whose office is situated almost opposite our agency. Both have French ski-instructors trained to the highest standards, and both have French and English speaking classes, giving snow-board and ski lessons.
There is also a children's "holiday" centre in the village, the Helios Centre, run by a small team of kind, trained child-minders, which welcomes children from 3 to 12 years old... offering indoor activities in the morning, lunch, and outdoor activities in the afternoon (weather permitting). They also offer transport to the slopes for children's ski-lessons in the afternoon, giving you the chance to ski without the kids for a change, if such is your wish! Places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
